Mendelssohn's Elijah

The Sanctuary Choirs and instrumentalists of First Baptist Huntsville and First Baptist Nashville will present Mendelssohn’s Elijah on Sunday afternoon, April 26, at 5:00 PM in our sanctuary. Featuring a 150+ voice choir, full orchestra, and drama cast, they will bring this dynamic Bible story to life through music and drama.   Our own David Giambrone will sing the role of Elijah.

Mendelssohn’s Elijah is one of the most dramatic Biblical works ever composed. Elijah stepped out of nowhere to become a significant prophet of God. Like Elijah, we’re all subject to times of bravery and times of fear. One day we’re able to face life with a smile; the next, we feel crushed by its oppressive weight. Our answer is in God and God alone, just as the name “Elijah” indicates:  It means:  “The Lord is my God.”

Elijah’s testimony is just as relevant today as it was in the day when he stood up boldly for God at a time when idolatry was prevalent in the land of Israel. This is a message we need to hear and share again for the people of our culture.
