Special Needs Adults Sunday Morning Bible Study
Contact: Sherron Culpepper
Location: Room 240 (enter at East Entrance- Entrance Four)
The Special Education Class is designed for adults with intellectual disabilities. The age range of class members is 18 years and older. Many members of the class are employed in sheltered workshop settings at The Arc of Madison County or other similar organizations. Some have jobs in the community. Most members live in a group home context; however, some live at home with their families.
The main goal of this class is to provide spiritual nurture and Christian fellowship to the class members. The director and teachers also serve as a source of support and encouragement to the families and care givers of the class members. Finally, the leaders of the class advocate for ministry with adults with intellectual disabilities, in our church, in other churches, and in the community. First Baptist has a long history of involvement in Special Education ministry beginning in 1963 with a group of students under the direction of the first teacher of the class, Mrs. Ruth Patterson.
Each week, members of the class gather after the Sunday Morning Bible Study hour to participate in the television broadcast of the First Baptist Morning Worship Service together. Three to four caring adults from our congregation worship with us. We enjoy as a group learning to know, love, and serve CHRIST...together.
